SUMMARY

All service locations that can receive utility power are expected to have services restored by the end of today, June 3, 2024.

A line of severe storms and tornados occurred on the morning of May 26 and left over 64,000 Cooperative customers without power in our service area. The storms resulted in 1,200 broken poles and other significant utility damages. The Cooperative quickly enacted its Emergency Restoration Plan on the morning of May 26. In total, Carroll Electric Cooperative had over 1,000 individuals working to restore power after seeking additional assistance from contractors and other utilities. In addition to the Cooperative's internal crews, 205 outside crews (both line services and Right-of-Way clearance) and 580 pieces of equipment assisted with restoration from at least 11 states:  Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas. We are extremely thankful to them for responding to our request to assist.

Weather conditions, access to facilities, and poor soil conditions slowed restoration progress, but as weather conditions improved, positive results were experienced over the weekend. Operations remobilized crews accordingly throughout the event, releasing crews as congestion to work in close proximity became a concern. Several of these factors contributed to restoring power sooner than initial projections.

The Cooperative sincerely appreciates its customers’ continued patience and support throughout this event. This was a difficult and challenging situation for everyone involved. Appreciation is likewise expressed for fuel and material suppliers, lodging and hospitality, food service providers, and other support services such as laundry. It is impossible to recognize everyone, but we are humbled by the countless acts of kindness and words of encouragement shown throughout the last week.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Customers should be mindful of damage that occurred to their equipment. If a customer’s meter base is pole or pedestal-mounted, Carroll Electric must be involved in the repairs and/or replacement. This could also be true of a meter base mounted on the customer’s home or business. If there is any uncertainty, customers should contact the Cooperative or an electrician for advice on the repair process.

Some residents may be eligible for public assistance programs to help cover costs associated with storm restoration and recovery efforts. For more details on available assistance and eligibility requirements, please visit disasterassistance.gov.
